Pilot McLaren Lando Norris expressed bewilderment at the fine received at the Grand Prix of Sao Paulo for a collision with Charles Leclerc.

Norris hooked Leclerc in Turn 6, causing the Ferrari driver to spin. However, despite the fact that Leclerc went off the track and crashed into the barriers, he managed to get to the pits and then continued the race. Norris was fined 5 seconds for this incident and received 2 penalty points:

Charles tried to go around me on the outside trajectory. This is racing. If someone claims that in this situation I needed to make room even more and move inward, they should get behind the wheel of the car themselves.

Sometimes the stewards really try too hard to find the culprit. It seems to me that it`s just very difficult for them to put themselves in the place of the racers - for example, in this case, put themselves in my place. After all, it was Charles who took the risk, trying to overtake on the outer trajectory.

The first thing you learn in racing is that you should try not to overtake on the outside. And if you still do it, try to leave your opponent as much space as possible. At that moment, we were in a high-speed turn and it was Charles who risked more than me.

I did what I could - I didn`t try to squeeze out Charles or anything like that. It`s just stupid, I didn`t want to spoil my race. I think if Charles himself had been in my place, he would have acted in the same way.

Norris believes that experienced riders should be invited to the role of FIA stewards, who could assess the situation, including from their own experience. At the same time, former Formula 1 driver Derek Warwick and local representative Roberto Moreno worked as stewards in Brazil:

The question is, how exactly do the stewards act - just watch the replay from the on-board cameras and find someone guilty? Or are they still sorting out the incident, trying to figure out if the rider did everything to avoid a collision, and so on?

So yes, more riders should be invited to the stewards, who will understand the situation well, assessing it through the eyes of the pilot. I have nothing against our stewards, but too often there are situations that, it seems to me, the stewards cannot correctly assess, looking through the eyes of the pilot - understanding exactly how the cars are located on the track, at what speeds this happens, and so on.
